Terry Olsen, founder of Olsen Law Firm
Olsen Law Firm
You've probably seen the bumper sticker "Think globally." This concept is becoming more prevalent in the business world with the advent of the Information Age.
The trend toward international business prompted Terry Olsen, founder of Olsen Law Firm, to incorporate elements of immigration law, international law, and business law into his practice.
Olsen has clients throughout the United States and around the world who rely on his expertise to help bring workers in from other countries or hire employees who are here currently but not originally from the United States.
"As a business lawyer, I've found particular value in the BDC," says Olsen. "Not only do I have low overhead, I also have the opportunity to watch the struggles of businesses of different sizes and stages. Because of this experience, I can better adapt my services to meet clients' needs."
One such adaptation Olsen has been able to make is flat-rate billing. While most lawyers charge by the hour, Olsen says that an all-inclusive price is more appealing for clients.
"When clients call with issues, I feel it's more beneficial to take time and talk through their concerns without worrying about the minutes adding up," he says. "In fact, I've recently acquired several clients from Atlanta largely on the basis of flat rates."

Jonathan Lehman, owner and proprietor of Four Green Fields Woodworking
Four Green Fields Woodworking
What started as a boyhood interest in building ramps and treehouses has blossomed into a lifelong career for Jonathan Lehman, owner and proprietor of Four Green Fields Woodworking. His experience with construction, remodeling, and interior decorating prompted a venture into custom woodworking.
"The items we make are built specifically based on the requests of our customers-we don't do any sort of mass production," Lehman explains. "Custom furniture is a primary focus, but we specialize in creating items that can't be found anywhere else. For example, I recently had a client request a wooden canoe to hang from the ceiling of his log home."
Lehman has operated from the BDC since November of 2003, and he says it's been a great fit so far.
"The BDC helps its tenants start off on the right foot. The price is affordable, and the other services like the library and counselors they provide help instill the confidence new business owners need to make their companies work," Lehman says. "I can honestly say that without the BDC I wouldn't be in business right now. I'm excited about the opportunity."
