Martin L. Pierce is newly certified as an Estate Planning Law Specialist by the Estate Law Specialist Board, Inc., an organization accredited by the American Bar Association and affiliated with the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils. He becomes only the 18th attorney in Tennessee to be certified as an Estate Planning Law Specialist by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization.
His areas of practice include estate and trust taxation, estate planning, elder law, probate and trust administration, charitable and not-for-profit planning, business succession planning, tax-exempt entities and foundations, wealth preservation planning, employee benefits (retirement plans, group health plans, cafeteria plans, etc.), and ERISA. He provides lifetime financial planning involving special needs of children, spouses and parents. Martin represents clients in the analysis and recommendation of complex estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax issues, including development of sophisticated estate plans.
A Board member of the Chattanooga Estate Planning Council and a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Mr. Pierce is a frequent speaker to professional groups, business groups, church and civic organizations, and others.
Mr. Pierce has been very active with numerous local ministries and organizations, serving on the Board of Chattanooga Christian School, as a co-founder of First Things First, and as an active member of Red Bank Baptist Church, among others.
To become Board-certified as an Estate Planning Law Specialist, Mr. Pierce had to pass a comprehensive examination in estate planning law, receive recommendations from at least five colleagues and establish that he has spent a significant amount of his practice over the past several years practicing in the Estates area. There are also estate-related continuing legal education requirements involved.
The Estate Law Specialist Board, Inc. is the only ABA-accredited and Tennessee-approved program for certification of an attorney as an Estate Planning Law Specialist.
"We believe that specialization is the future of practicing law, and that as specialization increases it will benefit the public," said Joanna Reiver, former EPLS Board President of Wilmington, Delaware. |
